Santa Catarina: Sustainable preservation and development
In Santa Catarina, both companies and citizens are aware of their role in sustainable development. Among all the Brazilian states, Santa Catarina has the largest portion of Rain Forest in comparison to its original size. All told, there are 12 federal Conservation Units, 7 state, 22 private natural heritage reserves and innumerous municipal and private parks. Although preserved for scientific research purposes, and ecotourism, nature in Santa Catarina is a business too. The environmental corporate and social responsibilities manifest themselves in activities such as the suitable treatment of effluents and the implementation of management systems which include major investments in environmental education. The growth potential of ecological businesses is immense, from the generation of clean energy to the recycling of residues for productive input.
