Support for talents and popular manifestations

Santa Catarina’s  cultural and artistic manifestations mirror the diversity of migratory influxes and ethnic groups which are present in the State. Typical traditional festivities, artisan handcrafts, folkloric groups, language and gastronomy express the vitality of the popular culture, with creative regional variations. The Historic Heritage also reflects the peculiarities of each region, like the Portuguese colonial house rows along the coast and the German half-timber architecture in the Itajaí Valley.

In contemporary art, Santa Catarina extracts from local values, the universal element which has given international recognition to our painters, musicians, dancers, choreographers, movie makers, actors and playwrights.  The Government and private initiative has, through fiscal incentives, sponsorships and awards effectively supported the cultural production and talents in Santa Catarina.
